Ending hunger is the work of our whole community

Harvest of Hope Food Pantry, Americus, GA

Responding to the call of Jesus Christ, the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry feeds the hungry, promotes physical and spiritual health, and brings people together in a community of love.

Its all-volunteer staff collects, shelves, packs and distributes donated cans, dry goods and fresh vegetables.  About 750 families receive food each month. It is the work of the whole community. More than 100 volunteers share the job led by executive director, the Rev. Sonny Pinckard, and his wife, Ginger, who are also volunteers.

Families who need food come to the pantry monthly on Tuesday mornings. Volunteers distribute bags of food after the families are interviewed to establish income and need.  Earlier in the week food is sorted and prepared by volunteers.

Some food supplies come from the Second Harvest of South Georgia food bank. Thousands of cans, plastic bags and dry goods are donated by local citizens through churches, scouts and other charities.

Harvest of Hope works with Sumter Area Ministerial Assocation, the Friends on a Mission Relief Shelter, Department of Family and Children Services, Salvation Army, area churches and other agencies.

The ministry of the food pantry started and is sustained by prayer and the grace and power of the Holy Spirit.

Tax status:

The food pantry is certified as a domestic non-profit corporation in the state of Georgia and is a 501(c)3 Corporation. All donations to the food pantry qualify as tax-deductible contributions.
